The details.
Chinese hackers have broken into the system of the largest US telecommunications company Verizon and attacked the mobile phones of people from the campaign of the Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, Reuters reports, citing sources.
According to media reports, the hacker attacks could also be directed against the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and his ally J.D. Vance, but Reuters could not confirm this information.
The campaign's communications director Steven Cheung claims that Harris “encouraged” China and Iran to attack American infrastructure in order to prevent Trump from returning to the White House.
The FBI and the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency said they were investigating unauthorized access to commercial telecommunications infrastructure by individuals associated with China. The agencies did not name the targets of the incident in a joint statement.
At the same time, Verizon noted that it was aware of the attempt to attack U.S. telecommunications companies to obtain intelligence information. The company added that it was cooperating with law enforcement agencies.
