The changes concern postal services.
They want to introduce changes to the Belarusian legislation that concerns postal services. The corresponding bill is being considered in the "parliament", Zerkalo reports.
The draft outlines that the national postal operator, Belpochta, will be required to design, implement, modernize, maintain, and manage a unified automated system for tracking and storing postal shipment data. The law refers to this system as the "Data Accounting and Storage System." Belpochta would serve as both the owner and operator of this database.
Under the proposal, the organization would be obligated to input customer postal shipment data into the system. Additionally, the government intends to expand its authority to define the types of postal shipment information subject to centralized collection and storage in this database.
Belpochta would also need to provide 24/7 access to this system for agencies conducting operational and investigative activities. This implies that security forces could retrieve data from the database at any time.
Officials claim the primary objective of this legislative initiative is to improve the identification of items and substances prohibited for shipment via postal services.
