Polish Senate Approves Resolution Demanding Release Of Andrzej Poczobut From Belarusian Authorities

The political prisoner has been behind bars for three years.

In the resolution, the Polish Senate recalled that March 25, 2024 marks three years since the imprisonment of journalist and one of the leaders of the Union of Poles in Belarus – Andrzej Poczobut.

“The Senate of the Republic of Poland appeals to the European Parliament, parliaments and governments of the democratic world to take measures for the release of Andrzej Poczobut and all prisoners of conscience in Belarus,” the Polskie Radio quotes the text of the resolution.

It also condemns the "shameful act of violation of human rights and fundamental rights of national minorities", Poczobut’s imprisonment testifies to this.

The senators also expressed “their highest appreciation for Poczobut's unwavering struggle for the right to Polish culture and freedom in Belarus,” as well as solidarity with his family and all those who are fighting for his release.

Among other things, the Senate raised the need to toughen sanctions against the Lukashenka regime.
