The political prisoner was bombarded with disciplinary sanctions.
Political prisoner Eduard Babaryka, serving his sentence in penal colony #2 in Babruisk, is held in the cell-type premises, Nasha Niva reports.
The son of Viktar Babaryka ended up in the Babruisk colony at the end of 2023 or the very beginning of 2024. Unlike other prisoners, he was never actually assigned to any unit — from the very start, Babaryka Jr. was bombarded with disciplinary sanctions and isolated from other prisoners.
The logic of the administration is to quickly “pass” a high-status political prisoner through the punishment cell and the cell-type premises, thereby creating a formal opportunity to transfer them to prison conditions.
According to the same scheme, lawyer Yury Ziankovich (sentence — 11 years), associate of Mikalai Autukhovich Uladzimir Hundar (sentence — 20 years), Russian citizen Yegor Dudnikov (sentence — 11 years) and other political prisoners with long sentences. were transferred as quickly as possible from colony #2 in Babruisk to prison #4 in Mahiliou.
In some cases, political prisoners were transferred to prison #8 in Zhodzina, but this happened less frequently.
The main difference between being held in a colony and in prison conditions is that in the first case, prisoners have at least some activity and the ability to move around the territory, while in the second they are in a cell.
Eduard Babaryka was arrested along with his father on June 18, 2020. At first he was charged with economic charges such as tax evasion. However, Babaryka Jr. was not tried for this, and after a year and a half in the pre-trial detention center — the maximum possible time — he was re-arrested on political charges. Moreover, these one and a half years were not even counted towards the time served.
After being held in pre-trial detention for another year and a half, Eduard was eventually sentenced to 8 years in prison for “organizing mass riots” and “inciting hatred.”
There has been no information about his father, Viktar Babaryka, for about a year. In April 2023, in a moderate condition, he was taken to the surgery department of the Navapolatsk hospital, and then placed in the cell-type premises.
