Russian GS Academy Chief Calls To Be Ready For Big War In Europe
VLADIMIR ZARUDNITSKY

Russia can face a strategic defeat.

Russia's protracted military actions in Ukraine could escalate into a major war in Europe, said Colonel-General Vladimir Zarudnitsky, the Chief of the Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Federation.

"It is possible that the conflict in Ukraine may escalate into a large-scale war in Europe. The probability of purposeful involvement of our state in new military conflicts increases significantly," Zarudnitsky wrote in an article for the Military Thought magazine.

According to him, the United States and its allies "are trying to preserve their hegemony by all means" and have set themselves the task of inflicting a "strategic defeat" on Russia. The West is also seeking a change of power in the Kremlin to limit the country's sovereignty and destroy its territorial integrity.

Therefore, according to the Colonel-General, even with the end of the war in Ukraine, the "crisis confrontation" between Russia and the West will not end. "The launched process of transformation of the existing world order is associated with the growth of contradictions, the resolution of which always leads to the use of military force," Zarudnitsky stressed.

At the same time, against the background of the war in Ukraine, there was no major split in the world and a large group of neutral countries appeared that sought autonomy from the United States and Western states, the military says. However, according to him, "with rare exceptions", these "short-term" allies of Russia and Moscow need to take into account their military potential when planning measures to ensure military security.

Prior to that, the Military Thought magazine published an article describing a possible NATO attack on Russia. In particular, a rapid global strike would be launched on the country, followed by an air-land or air-naval operation. They will be carried out by joint operational units that are being trained in NATO member states. They are capable of striking the administrative, political and defence infrastructure of Russia in a short time, according to the magazine of the Ministry of Defence.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden talked about the risk of a direct military conflict with Russia. According to him, after the "capture of Ukraine", Russian President Vladimir Putin can attack NATO member states.
