Russian Troops Dropped Air Defence Missile On 9-Story Residential Building In Kursk

Many injured.

On the night of August 11, powerful explosions thundered in the Russian city of Kursk due to a UAV attack on the Khalino military airfield.

Fragments of a Russian air defence missile fell on an apartment building, dialog.ua reports.

The governor of the Kursk region, Alexey Smirnov, blamed the Russian air defense for the incident. He reported that "fragments of a shot down missile" fell on the building. "A fire broke out. All emergency services are working at the crash site (...)," the Russian governor said.

According to the Russians, 13 people were injured in the incident, 2 of whom are in serious condition. The building itself was seriously damaged. Cars that were parked nearby were burned.

Russian military expert Yan Matveyev put forward several versions of what could have fallen on the Kursk apartment building. He suggests that these could be fragments of either an Iskander or an S-300. The Russian Armed Forces could have used these missiles to shoot down Ukrainian attack drones flying to the Khalino airfield.

"Kursk has become a combat zone, and it is mortally dangerous to be there," Matveyev stated.
