EU Court Refuses To Lift Sanctions Against Belaruskali

The lawsuit filed by Lukashenka's regime was turned down.

Court of the European Union dismissed the claims of Belaruskali, its CEO Ivan Halavaty and BCC to the Council of the EU on lifting sanctions. This is stated in the decisions of the court, published today.

As follows from the document, the lawyers representing the Belarusian fertiliser producer are insisting on the fact that the sanctions violate the principle of legality. In addition, they pointed to the error in assessments, violation of the principle of non-discrimination, proportionality of restrictive measures, etc. as arguments.

Having considered the arguments of the Belarusian side, as well as representatives of the EU Council and supported by Latvia and Belgium, the court decided to reject the suit of Belaruskali. The manufacturer will also have to pay the court costs, incurred by the EU Council. Latvia and Belgium will bear their own costs.
