Pope Makes Statement On War In Ukraine
Pope Leo XIV

The pontiff called on the world to step up efforts to end the war.

Pope Leo XIV called on the world to step up efforts to end the war in Ukraine during Sunday prayers. This was reported by Vatican News on Sunday, January 25.

Addressing the faithful in St. Peter's Square, the pontiff called for prayers for peace in the world, especially in Ukraine, the Middle East and other regions where war claims lives and destroys people's fates on a daily basis.

Talking about Ukraine, Leo XIV emphasized that the country continues to be subjected to relentless attacks that leave civilians in a humanitarian crisis, particularly amid the winter cold.

"I observe with sadness what is happening, I am with those who are suffering and I pray for them," the Vatican head said.

The Pope emphasized that the prolonged conflict has increasingly severe consequences for civilians, deepens divisions between peoples and distances the possibility of a just and lasting peace.

"I call on everyone to intensify their efforts to end the war," Leo XIV stressed.
