Ukraine's position on territorial issues has not changed.
President Vladimir Zelensky said that Ukraine's position on territorial issues has not changed. The country will not agree to give Donetsk and Lugansk regions to Russia.
At a joint press conference with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda and Polish President Karol Nawrocki in Vilnius on Sunday, January 25, Zelensky was asked about the discussion of the Donbass issue during talks in the UAE on January 23 and 24.
The Ukrainian president noted that during the trilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi, a 20-point plan and problematic issues were discussed, which, according to Zelensky, became less. At the same time, the aggressor country Russia has not changed its goal.
"For quite a long time Russia wants to do everything so that Ukraine would not be in the east of our state. They have set this as a goal, and it is clear that they want to achieve this goal. On the frontline, they cannot do it yet. Our position on our territory, the territorial integrity of Ukraine, which must be respected - everyone knows our position: we are fighting for our state, for our own, we are not fighting on the territory of a foreign country, so what questions can there be to us," Zelensky noted.
He emphasized that these are two fundamentally different positions of Ukraine and Russia, so all sides must compromise.
"We are going to the fact that we are communicating in a trilateral format. These are the first steps, maybe, to find that very compromise, but for compromise you need all sides to be ready to compromise. And the American side as well," the Ukrainian president said.
On January 23, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov repeated Russia's ultimatum to withdraw the Ukrainian Defense Forces from the territory of Donbas before a meeting in Abu Dhabi.
Peskov said that Russia's position is that the Ukrainian Defense Forces should "leave the territory of Donbas."
