The bridge is critical to the logistics of the occupying forces.
A series of powerful explosions rocked Rostov-on-Don, Russia, on the night of October 10. A drawbridge on the railway line between Rostov and Bataysk was damaged as a result of a drone attack. Due to the damage, train traffic on both tracks was temporarily suspended, and dozens of passenger trains were delayed. This was reported by the Telegram channel Supernova+, as well as the press service of the North Caucasus Railway (North Caucasus Railway, a branch of Russian Railways).
“Today, October 10, a lift bridge was damaged as a result of a drone attack on the Rostov–Bataisk section. Consequently, traffic on both tracks was temporarily suspended. As of 7:49 a.m., traffic on both tracks of the railway bridge is operating as usual,” the official statement reads.

At the same time, the publicly available reports that we were able to verify lack a detailed description of the structural damage or independent confirmation of the extent of the destruction.
However, the damage to the bridge has significantly disrupted rail service in southern Russia.
According to the Federal Passenger Company, 25 passenger trains traveling on various routes—including those between Moscow, St. Petersburg, Adler, Novorossiysk, and other cities—were initially delayed. As of the morning of October 10, traffic on both tracks of the bridge had already resumed. At that time, 14 passenger trains and two commuter trains were delayed, with delays ranging from 57 minutes to 3 hours and 40 minutes.
According to data from open sources, this bridge is critical for the logistics of the occupying forces. It forms part of the route through which the Russians transport military cargo, equipment, and reinforcements to the southern sector of the front.
The Rostov bascule bridge consists of five spans. In addition to military convoys, most passenger trains passing through Rostov use it, as well as a significant portion of civilian freight trains.
As a reminder, on the night of October 10, a large-scale fire broke out in Rostov-on-Don following a drone attack, and, according to preliminary data, the oil loading terminal at the Novoshakhtinsk Oil Products Plant may have been targeted.
