The Legendary Michael Douglas Admitted That He Used To Be Afraid Of Going On Stage
Michael Douglas

The famous actor compared his life to a roller coaster.

Two-time Oscar winner Michael Douglas admitted that early in his acting career, he was so afraid of performing that he felt nauseous before going on stage. In an interview with People.

The son of the famous actor Kirk Douglas initially didn’t want to follow in his father’s footsteps and was anxious about being compared to him. In college, he chose theater almost by accident, and his first performances were extremely difficult for him.

“I had terrible stage fright. There was a trash can backstage where I would throw up,” Douglas recalls.

The turning point came when he worked with acting coach Wynn Handman. He helped the young actor believe in his abilities and stop seeing his classes as torture.

“Sometimes all you need is to hear a few words of encouragement at the right time,” Douglas writes in his book.

Later, while working on the film *Fatal Attraction*, the actor realized that acting is a craft that can be mastered. This changed his attitude toward the profession.

“Once I realized that, acting began to bring me much more joy,” Douglas said.

In his memoir, he described his life as a roller coaster—from a difficult childhood to success in Hollywood.
