A UAV was detected in the Toulon region.
In France, during recent military exercises in the Toulon region, several flights of “unauthorized drones” were recorded “near and over military facilities.”
This is stated in a press release from the French Navy, as reported by Le Figaro.
The incidents were recorded during the joint military exercises “Typhon,” aimed at defending and protecting the military port of Toulon, which, according to the Navy, took place from October 5 to 16.
“At this time, no critical infrastructure has been compromised. A judicial investigation has been launched. In each case, the necessary security measures were taken by deploying anti-drone systems in coordination with internal security forces,” according to a statement from the Mediterranean Zone Command.
When contacted for comment, the Navy’s Mediterranean Zone Command declined to provide any information on the number of incidents, the type of drones involved, or whether any of them were successfully neutralized.
According to the publication Ici Provence, drone flights were detected near the naval base, the General Directorate of Armaments facility in Toulon, and the 54th Artillery Regiment in Hyères.
The exact number of drones and their models could not be determined
According to an unnamed source, unauthorized drones were detected “in groups of several at a time, and they were large drones.”
However, as reported by Ici Provence, the exact number of drones and their models could not be determined, despite the use of electromagnetic jamming systems.
