"The Kerch Bridge Could Become A Target For Ukrainian Missiles"

A military expert named two Ukrainian systems capable of handling the task.

The Kerch Bridge could become a target for Ukrainian missiles, but the Russian occupiers have a very robust air defense system there. This was stated on the air by Radio NV, Andriy Ryzhenko, a first-rank captain in the reserve and deputy chief of staff of the Ukrainian Navy from 2004 to 2020, made this statement.

Responding to a question about the development of Ukrainian ballistic missiles and their initial targets, he noted that a cruise missile flies horizontally, while a ballistic missile falls from above, effectively reaching low Earth orbit.

“The FP-7 missile climbs to an altitude of 65 kilometers; for example, its current range is about 200 kilometers. This means the bridge (the Kerch Bridge—ed.) could be a target. It all depends on what kind of high-explosive warhead this ballistic missile carries and whether it can penetrate the air defense system,” said Ryzhenko.

He added that the Crimean Bridge’s air defense system is “very robust,” as it includes S-400 systems capable of countering ballistic threats.

“The key question is how many of these missiles we’ll have and when they’ll arrive. Because this situation has been going on long enough,” the expert emphasized.

“Tochka” and “Sapsan”

Ryzhenko recalled that from the very beginning of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ formation, we have had “Tochka” operational-tactical missile systems. This is a ballistic missile with a tactical range of 120 km.
“This missile is powerful. And in terms of its characteristics, the FP-7 reminds me of this missile, give or take. Maybe it flies a little farther. But its operational characteristics are unclear at this time,” noted the reserve captain.

He also recalled the Ukrainian “Sapsan” project, which was launched in 2006. “The missile was quite powerful. It reminds me of the ‘Iskander’... Back then, the ‘Sapsan’ had a range of effectively 500 kilometers, and it could carry 500 kilograms of explosives in its warhead,” the expert said.

“It’s essentially a finished product. I don’t quite understand why we didn’t continue developing it and see it through to completion. Especially since it already has a range of 500 kilometers, not 200. This missile can be very easily modified, and it will already fly as we plan for the FP-9—which has a range of 900 kilometers,” Ryzhenko noted.

He emphasized that the missile has very high speed and sufficiently high accuracy. Therefore, it could significantly change the situation on the battlefield.
“These strikes could have a very serious strategic impact—both military and political,” the expert stressed.
