The Poizon marketplace is launching in Russia.
The Chinese marketplace Poizon is aggressively entering the Russian market and is preparing to oust its Russian competitors, Wildberries and Ozon, which have been severely impacted by the attacks from Ukraine.
Kommersant reports that Poizon has offered Russian sellers lower commission rates than the largest local platforms. In this way, the company is creating conditions to attract businesses that currently sell through Wildberries, Ozon, and Yandex Market.
Poizon charges sellers between 19% and 29% of the sale price. According to the Union of Marketplace Sellers, rates among Russian competitors can reach 55%. For businesses, the difference is significant: the less money the platform takes, the more the seller keeps—or the lower the price they can offer buyers.
The Chinese company also attracts sellers with additional services. It handles product listing, customer service, packaging, and marketing. Products can be stored in Russia or shipped from abroad.
For Russian marketplaces, this poses a threat of losing sellers, orders, and commission revenue. If businesses start shifting their sales to Poizon, the Chinese competitor will earn a portion of the money that Russian platforms used to receive. To retain sellers, local companies will have to offer more favorable terms.
Poizon’s expansion could further strengthen the Chinese company’s position in the Russian e-commerce market.
