Video evidence.
French President Emmanuel Macron witnessed a test launch of a new ballistic missile from a nuclear submarine. He posted about it on X.
Macron observed the launch aboard the multi-purpose frigate Auvergne. “I witnessed the first launch of the new M51.3 ballistic missile from the nuclear-powered submarine Le Vigilant,” he said, posting a video of the launch.
According to the French leader, very few countries possess such capabilities. He congratulated everyone involved in this “exceptional success”: the DGA, the CEA, Ariane Group, Naval Group, and the French Navy. “Your professionalism, meticulousness, and technical expertise are the pride of France,” Macron stated.
He noted that this technical success once again confirms the reliability of the French deterrent system, whose stability is guaranteed. “To be free, one must command respect. And to command respect, one must be strong,” the president emphasized.
Macron also noted that France’s future strategic submarines are already under construction. This year, he said, a program was launched to develop strategic hypersonic and maneuverable missiles, which will equip the air component of the deterrent. “Our nuclear deterrent protects us and will continue to protect us,” he added.

This technical success is yet another demonstration of the credibility of our deterrent, whose sustainability is assured.
To be free, one must be feared. And to be feared, one must be powerful.
To protect the French people from threats over the long term, I initiated the renewal of our capabilities in 2017 to ensure they are ready for the decades ahead. In ten years, our military budget will have doubled. Our future strategic submarines are currently under construction. The program for hypersonic and maneuverable strategic missiles, which will equip our air-based deterrent, was launched this year.
Our nuclear deterrent protects us and will continue to protect us.
Long live the Republic and long live France.
