"Everything Is On Fire": Lukoil's Largest Refinery Is Under Attack

A massive fire is raging at the factory in Kstovo.

On the night of November 1, a series of explosions rocked the city of Kstovo in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod Region, triggering a massive fire. Reports online suggest that one of the country’s largest oil refineries may have been struck by drones.

This likely refers to the “LUKOIL-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez” refinery, which has previously been targeted by drone attacks on multiple occasions. This was reported by the OSINT channel Exilenova+, citing eyewitness accounts from the scene.

“In Kstovo, the Kstovo Oil Refinery was successfully attacked,” the analysts write.

In addition, footage of the attack on the facility has appeared online. The videos and photos show a large-scale fire at the point of impact, as well as several separate fires. Thick smoke rose over the city following the attack.

It is known that an air raid alert had previously been issued in the region due to a threat from drones. Russian monitoring channels reported drones moving toward Kstovo, but there have been no official statements from local authorities.

What is known about the refinery in Kstovo

The “LUKOIL-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez” refinery is considered the fourth-largest oil refinery in Russia and the second-largest in terms of gasoline production. It is also Lukoil’s largest refinery in terms of installed capacity. Specifically, its design capacity is approximately 17 million metric tons of crude oil per year. In addition, the facility produces diesel and jet fuel, lubricants, and other petroleum products.

It is known that the Kstovo refinery plays an important role in supplying fuel to the Russian military, as well as in supporting the Russian economy.

As of 5:00 a.m., according to monitoring channels, the drone attack on Kstovo was ongoing: explosions could still be heard in the city. The extent of the fire and potential damage are still unknown.
