A New Type Of Guardrail Is Being Installed In Belarus

They should break the fall.

In Belarus, a new type of guardrail is being installed on national highways. Specialists from the industry-specific road laboratory BeldorNII also contributed to the installation, according to tochka.by.

These structures are intended to reduce injuries in traffic accidents.

How the guardrail will work

The new type of guardrail is designed to absorb the impact energy when a vehicle collides with it.

This will prevent potential rollovers or head-on collisions with rigid structures.

And it should reduce the severity of the consequences of traffic accidents.

However, these aren’t the first innovations on Belarusian highways.

Chameleon road markings have been introduced in Belarus

On one of the roads in the Brest Region, road markings that are unlike anything seen in Belarus so far.

It can change color depending on the temperature.

A section of the R-16 highway near the village of Tyukhinichi in the Brest District was chosen for the experiment. The technology was approved by the regional traffic police.

Before the bridge approach, a large snowflake was painted on the asphalt, with the innovative paint applied to its center.

It is this paint that reacts to changes in the weather. When the temperature stays above +4°C, the snowflake remains white.

But as soon as the temperature drops below that mark, the center of the snowflake turns pink.

This visual signal is intended to warn drivers of possible icy conditions.
