ISW analysts have revealed the details.

Over the past few days, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have managed to advance in the Sumy and Donetsk regions and have also thwarted a number of offensive operations by the Russian Federation’s army.

This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Ukrainian troops have recently regained control of positions or consolidated their hold north of Sumy. This is evidenced by geolocated video footage published on November 1. The footage shows a Russian attack on a Ukrainian position southwest of Andriivka. Russian sources had previously claimed that this area was under their control.

In the northeast of the Kharkiv region and southeast of Velykyi Burluk, Russian forces recently attempted to penetrate Ukrainian positions. Specifically, geolocated video from November 2 confirms a Ukrainian strike on Russian positions south of Khripuniv, located northeast of Kharkiv. According to the ISW, this was preceded by a Russian infiltration attempt.

On November 2 and 3, Russian troops attacked in the Kupiansk sector but were unable to advance. At the same time, Ukrainian defenders launched counterattacks north of Kupiansk.

According to a source linked to the Russian Federation’s Western Military District, on November 3, Russian forces continued their offensive in the Borovsk direction. The Ukrainian military, in turn, launched counterattacks northeast of Borova. However, the ISW found no evidence of Russian advances in this sector of the front.

In the Liman sector on November 2 and 3, Russian troops also continued their assault operations, particularly in and around the city itself. However, these attempts were unsuccessful, while Ukrainian forces counterattacked to the northeast and southeast of Lyman.

In addition, the ISW found new evidence that Ukrainian forces had previously advanced into Piskunovka and Rai-Oleksandrivka—settlements northeast and southeast of Sloviansk, respectively.

Near Konstantinovka and southwest of Druzhkivka, along the Kazenny Torets River, Russian forces concentrated their attacks on November 2 and 3. However, they were unable to make any gains in these areas.

In the Dobropillia sector, the Russians carried out fewer assaults over these two days than on any other day since at least August 1, 2026. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the occupiers carried out a total of 13 attacks there on November 2 and 3.

On November 3, neither Russian nor Ukrainian sources reported any ground combat operations in the Novopavlovsk sector.

In the Oleksandrivka sector on November 2 and 3, Russian troops conducted limited offensive operations but failed to achieve any success.

In the Huliaipole sector, the occupiers also continued their advance on November 2 and 3, but no confirmed changes to the front line were recorded. Meanwhile, on November 2, a Russian military blogger claimed that Russian forces were advancing west of Gorky, located west of Huliaipole.

In the west of the Zaporizhzhia region, Russian troops continued offensive operations on November 2 and 3 but did not achieve any confirmed territorial gains. In this sector, the Ukrainian Armed Forces carried out counterattacks south of Orekhov.
