By the end of August 2026, at least 393,881 Russian servicemen had been killed in the war in Ukraine. This conclusion was reached by the Belarusian hacker group “Cyberpartisans” after analyzing Rosstat data obtained through a hack. The tally included only those individuals whose cause of death was listed as military operations or their consequences. Total casualties, which also include the wounded, disabled, and missing in action, could be 3 to 5 times higher, according to the group’s estimates.
Hackers from Silent Crow also presented their own tally. According to their data, 450,100 Russians have died in the war against Ukraine since February 2022. In its methodology, the group also accounted for deaths classified as terrorist attacks, 14,160 non-combat deaths of military personnel, and 13,671 deaths of people registered in Russia who died in the occupied territories or in Ukraine without a specified cause. Added to this figure is an estimate of possible military deaths among the cases with no specified cause—ranging from 3,734 to 9,118. This estimate was calculated based on the higher proportion of men among those who died in frontline territories. According to the hackers, the data dump does not contain any names.
