It will be adopted and come into force as soon as possible.
Finland plans to allow the deployment of nuclear weapons on its territory as part of defense cooperation with NATO. The relevant legislative changes are to be adopted by parliament and enter into force as soon as possible.
The German tabloid Bild notes that such a move is unlikely to please Russian dictator Putin.
Earlier in March, the Finnish government announced plans to revise the current ban on the deployment of nuclear weapons. The Finnish Defense Ministry noted that there are "legal obstacles" that need to be removed for the country to fully participate in the Alliance's defense mechanisms.
Additional context is provided by Finland's decision to purchase U.S. F-35A fighter jets back in 2021. A total of 64 such planes are to be purchased.
These machines are capable of performing missions involving the use of nuclear weapons. In case of its deployment in the country, the importance of the Finnish Air Force within NATO may significantly increase.
Official reaction from Russia to the current statements has not yet followed. However, Kremlin representatives have previously commented on the matter.
Such a spokesman for the Russian dictator Dmitri Peskov claimed that the deployment of nuclear weapons in Finland could be seen as a factor of "escalation" in Europe.
Russian Ambassador to Helsinki Pavel Kuznetsov also stated that even the hypothetical possibility of deploying nuclear weapons would be taken into account by the Russian military in its planning.
