Trump's special envoy is preparing for a visit to Minsk.

Former political prisoner journalist Ekaterina Andreeva appealed to the U.S. Special Envoy to Belarus John Cole to facilitate the release of her husband - journalist Igor Ilyash. She published a corresponding appeal in her social networks.

In her statement, Andreeva emphasized that Ilyash devoted almost two decades to journalism and remains a high-level professional and a man who did not leave the country while she was imprisoned.

She said her spouse did not choose personal safety and did not leave her during a difficult period.

Ilyash is now being held in penal colony No. 2, where, as Andreeva notes, he is in difficult conditions. She said that his health condition requires constant attention and qualified medical care.

Igor Ilyash was sentenced in September 2025 to four years in prison. The reason for the criminal prosecution were his comments for the Belarusian independent and foreign media.

It should be noted that John Cole may soon visit Minsk.
