The French President announced Europe's decision to stop depending on any major power.
The countries of Europe have decided not to depend on major powers, this is one of the main conditions for strategic autonomy, French President Emmanuel Macron said at a panel discussion on the sidelines of the European Political Community summit in Yerevan, "Armenpress" reported.
"Over the past few years, we Europeans have decided to raise a collective alarm and not to depend on any major power," the French leader emphasized.
At the summit in Yerevan, Macron praised the policy of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, noting that the country has made an impressive path in recent years from being perceived as a "Russian satellite" to a state hosting numerous international visits. The politician emphasized that the examples of Ukraine, Moldova and Armenia demonstrate the common direction of development for European countries.
Macron has already stated that Europe needs to "wake up" because there is a "unique moment when the president of the United States, the president of Russia and the president of China have actually united against the Europeans." The French leader then specified that tensions with Washington would remain even after the departure of the Donald Trump administration, calling it a "historical trend."
In February, the French president had already warned that Europe was experiencing a "deep geopolitical rupture." "It is time for Europe to wake up. If we don't decide for ourselves, we will be swept away," he said, urging European countries to increase integration to counter "constant instability."
