It's May.
U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoy for Greenland, Jeff Landry, who is also governor of Louisiana, is preparing for his first visit to the island in May.
Associated Press writes Associated Press, citing a person familiar with the matter.
He is expected to travel to Greenland's capital Nuuk for a Future Greenland business conference, the publication's source said. Details of his program have not yet been disclosed.
The publication recalled that Trump has previously repeatedly said that the US should gain control of Greenland "for national security reasons." Earlier this year, he even threatened new duties against several European countries to increase pressure on the issue, but later abandoned the idea after global markets fell.
In recent months, Trump has mentioned Greenland less frequently in public, focusing on the topics of Iran, Venezuela and Cuba.
On April 7, the American president admitted that the "rift between the United States and NATO" began with Greenland, which Trump wanted to annex from Denmark. A number of European countries sent small contingents of troops to the island as a show of solidarity and deterrence.
After a series of statements and threats to control Greenland, Trump met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in January 2026 and said he would not take over the territory militarily. He said talks on the island, which the White House considers a national security issue because of the threat of Russia and China in the Arctic.
