A Belarusian Woman Brought A 0 Euro Bill From Abroad

Many people don't know it exists.

Elena bought a 0 euro banknote during a vacation in France. The banknote has all the real elements of protection: watermarks, holograms, serial numbers. The publication Myfin.by explained what the point of such money is.

The concept was developed by French entrepreneur Richard Faile in 2015. The idea is this: tourist sites get their own "banknote" with an image of their landmark and sell it as a souvenir.

The banknotes are printed by the French company Oberthur Technologies, one of the European Central Bank's official euro partners. They have been made under license from the ECB since 2015 on the same cotton paper as real euros - with a watermark, hologram, microprinting, security thread and elements visible only under ultraviolet light. The only obvious difference from a regular euro is the denomination "0".

Without looking at the denomination and without knowing the pictures, you can take such euros for real money. But you can't pay with them neither in a store nor in a bank. But you can earn money if you want to.

Elena had a banknote with the image of the Koske cave in France. On eBay the same one is sold for 6 euros.
