Residents Are Being Evacuated In Moscow Following A Drone Attack

On the morning of June 18, reports emerged from Moscow and the Moscow Region of a massive drone attack. The mayor of the Russian capital, Sergei Sobyanin, announced that “180 drones had been destroyed”; there are no reports of casualties or injuries, according to "Focus" (Sadovod in Moscow is on fire — a fire broke out in the largest shopping center following a drone attack).
He reported this on his Telegram channel. According to Sobyanin, minor damage to one of the buildings was recorded on the grounds of the “Sadovod” shopping center after debris fell.
“Minor damage to one of the buildings was reported at the site where debris fell on the grounds of the Sadovod shopping center. There were no injuries. Emergency services are on the scene,” Sobyanin said.
The Russian TV channel “Dozhd,” citing its viewers, reported that during the attack in Moscow, there were no air raid sirens, SMS alerts, or other warnings of danger.
Due to the attack, all airports in the Moscow region have temporarily suspended operations. At Sheremetyevo, passengers were evacuated and access to the terminals was restricted.
The governor of the Moscow Region Andrei Vorobyov reported that the Moscow suburbs were also subjected to a massive attack. In Zhukovsky, a drone struck an apartment building on Gagarin Street.
A local resident told the publication “Vot Tak” that she was awakened by explosions around 5:30 a.m. According to her, the sound of a drone could be heard above the building just before the explosion.
“Half a minute later, there was a loud explosion somewhere nearby. Five to seven minutes later, we heard the sounds of emergency vehicles rushing to the scene,” she said.
In the village of Stepanovo, near Elektrostal, drone debris damaged the roof of a private home; after the debris fell, a car caught fire, but the blaze was extinguished.
In the village of Masnovo-Zhukovo near Chekhov, a dacha was destroyed and outbuildings were damaged when a drone struck them. Two more vacation homes caught fire near the village of Fateevo in Pavlovsky Posad. In Lyubertsy, debris damaged several buildings, including a fitness center, and a fire broke out on the roof of the “Belaya Dacha” shopping center.

Russian media are also reporting evacuations from certain areas of Moscow due to heavy smoke. According to their reports, at least five fires were recorded in the city following the drone attack. Local residents are complaining about heavy smoke, while Russian authorities report that air defense systems are operational and that they are dealing with the aftermath of the attack.
As a reminder, on the morning of June 18, drones attacked the Moscow Oil Refinery in the Kapotnya district. A fire broke out on the plant’s grounds, and thick black smoke rose over the city.
