Contrary To Putin's Statements
Garry Kasparov

The strategic initiative has completely shifted to the Ukrainian side.

It is clear to me that this war can be ended only by the complete de-occupation of Crimea. The Ukrainian flag flying over Sevastopol is the only way to finally knock out the imperial spirit and destroy the virus that is deeply lodged in the minds of the vast majority of Russian citizens. There is no doubt that this will happen, the only question is the timing. And judging by what we are witnessing today, the denouement may come much faster than it seemed a while ago.

Today, the Russian occupation of Crimea faces serious logistical problems. Ukraine must be commended: given the scale of the enemy, it has found an exceptionally effective method of fighting. Ukraine has completely changed the concept of modern warfare, proving that a technologically savvy party is capable of inflicting critical damage on a conventionally stronger enemy.

Ukraine's victory in this war is a scenario not of 1945, but of 1918, based on the total depletion of the enemy's resource base. And in recent months, this process has been escalating: Ukrainian drones have successfully penetrated the aggressor's defenses. For centuries, the vast territory of Russia was considered an insurmountable obstacle for the advancing armies. But today these gigantic expanses are beginning to work against Russia itself.

The strategic initiative has completely passed to the Ukrainian side. Contrary to Putin's statements, there are no real successes for the occupation troops. Even Russian war correspondents are now sounding the alarm and writing not about the offensive, but about the real threat of the front collapsing. The Kremlin has no effective antidote against this strategy. Therefore, it is safe to say that the issue of de-occupation of Crimea has finally ceased to be a matter of the distant future.
