Effective July 1, the Russian government is temporarily suspending traffic through railway border crossings on the borders with Finland, Estonia, and Latvia. The corresponding order has been published on the legal acts portal. No reasons for this decision have been given, nor has the duration of the restrictions been specified.
“To temporarily suspend, effective July 1, 2026, the movement of persons, vehicles, goods, and cargo through railway border crossing points across the state border of the Russian Federation on certain sections of the state border of the Russian Federation, as listed in the appendix,” — the document states.
On the Russian-Finnish section of the border, the following border crossing points are being closed: Vyborg (Leningrad Oblast), Värtsi and Lütta (Karelia), St. Petersburg-Finlyandsky, and Svetogorsk (Leningrad Oblast). On the Estonian side—Pechory-Pskovskie (Pskov Oblast). On the Latvian side—Pytalovo (Pskov Region).
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been instructed to notify the authorities of Finland, Estonia, and Latvia of this decision.
