"Lukashenko Effectively Spent Two Days Under Arrest"

Why did the dictator go to China?

Politician and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine Roman Besmertny on the air Radio NV explained why Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko traveled to China:

— Lukashenko effectively spent two days under arrest in Valdai, where, according to international analysts and news agencies, Putin constantly pressured him to enter the war. But Lukashenko has no way to go to war; he is terribly frightened by the Ukrainian side’s ultimatum. He came up with a cunning move: he went to Beijing to seek an answer from Xi Jinping.

They met with Xi Jinping, who noted that bilateral Belarusian-Chinese relations had reached an all-time high. Afterward, they had a “family dinner” at the residence of the President of the People’s Republic of China.

Let me remind you that nearly 10 years ago, the Lukashenko family purchased a house in a rural area—a fairly comfortable home in China. So now my thoughts range from the idea that Lukashenko went to check out where he might have to flee to the idea that he brought a request to Xi Jinping. It’s no coincidence that, in his conversation with Xi Jinping, Lukashenko let slip that, in the current situation, supplies of microchips, components, machine tools, dual-use equipment, and the like are absolutely essential for improving the defense-industrial complex and other areas.

It seems as though he was speaking not for the Belarusians, but for Russia. Evidently, there at Valdai, he wasn’t so much being persuaded—after all, one can only persuade someone who represents a certain kind of power. Unfortunately for Lukashenko and Putin, the troops, weapons, ammunition, and other weapons systems currently in Belarus will no longer be able to play any role in the war.

Therefore, it is clear that they focused primarily on what Lukashenko would ask of Xi Jinping. However, as we understand it, we did not receive a direct answer. But in the current situation, it is very risky for Xi Jinping not only to give an answer but also to take any action at all. After all, the situation is currently heading toward Moscow’s complete loss of tactical and strategic initiative.
