The government was headed by Eugen Tomac.
Romanian President Nicusor Dan has appointed Eugen Tomac as prime minister. This is reported by Digi24.
"I appoint Eugen Tomac as prime minister to form a government," he said.
The head of state said that after parliament sent the government of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan to resign, the parties in the coalition could not agree, so he chose an independent candidate. According to Dan, Tomac has the necessary experience and values for the position.
"I accept this mission in good faith - to offer the country a professional government team that will work for the benefit of citizens," Tomac said.
The new prime minister assured that the cabinet will manage the budget responsibly and fulfill its commitments, while putting the interests of the people at the center of its work. He has 10 days to form a government and receive a vote of confidence, the source said.
But according to Digi24, the National Liberal Party and the Union for the Salvation of Romania have already said they will not support the cabinet if it includes representatives of the Social Democratic Party.
Eugen Tomac was born on June 28, 1981 in the village of Babel, Izmail district (present-day Ukraine) to a family of Bessarabian Romanians. He moved to Romania in the early 2000s.
In 2006 he became an advisor in the Administration of President Traian Basescu, dealing with diaspora issues. He was Secretary of State, was elected as a member of the Romanian Parliament, and since 2019 he has been a member of the European Parliament.
