Mykhailo Drapaty Has Been Appointed The New Commander-in-chief Of The Armed Forces Of Ukraine

Alexander Syrsky has been dismissed.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has decided to replace the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The position will be filled by Mykhailo Drapaty.
This was reported by Charter97.org, citing the president’s post on Telegram.
“I have decided that Mykhailo Drapaty will become the new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Together with Mykhailo, Yevhen Khmara and Pavlo Palisa have determined how the structure of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine should be reorganized,” Zelenskyy stated.
Mykhailo Drapaty is a combat general and one of the symbols of the Ukrainian resistance. He has been fighting against the Russians since 2014 and has participated in many battles and operations.
At the start of the full-scale invasion, Drapaty was deputy commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; he subsequently commanded troops in southern Ukraine and liberated Kherson.
Subsequently, General Drapaty commanded the Ground Forces, and in the summer of 2025, he took command of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
As a reminder, a crisis erupted in Ukraine in July 2026. Following the resignation of Yulia Sviridenko’s government, there was no place in the new Cabinet of Ministers for Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. Following his resignation, he did not remain silent and accused Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi of ineffective and outdated leadership. It also became known that there was a conflict between Syrsky and Fedorov, as well as a de facto ultimatum to President Zelenskyy, who was forced to choose between the two.
He chose Syrsky, which sparked massive public protests, during which one key demand gradually emerged from among the others: the Commander-in-Chief’s resignation. In addition, military officials began to speak openly about their grievances against Syrsky.
As President of Ukraine and Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Zelenskyy could not ignore the will of the people, so he began to examine the issue and consult with military officials. Zelenskyy also met with leading military commanders, including Mykhailo Drapaty.
