Washington agreed.
Iran asked the U.S. to continue negotiations, and Washington agreed. U.S. President Donald Trump announced this on the social media platform Truth Social.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran asked us to continue ‘negotiations.’ We agreed to this, but the United States has made it unequivocally clear to them that the ceasefire is over!” Trump wrote.
As a reminder, on July 8 at the NATO summit in Ankara, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he considered the ceasefire with Iran to be over.
That same evening, the U.S. military, acting on Trump’s orders, began launching additional strikes against Iran “to further reduce its ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.”
In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported strikes on U.S. military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain. Tehran warned that it was prepared to attack other U.S. targets in the region if Washington continued its military operation.
Against the backdrop of renewed hostilities, oil prices also rose.
