A Record Number Of Illegal Immigrants Attacked The Latvian Border

This hasn't happened since 2023.

A record high over the past 1,024 days number of attempts by migrants to cross the border illegally from Belarus—232—was recorded on July 1 by the Latvian State Border Guard, according to an analysis of its operational data conducted by "Pozirki" analysis of its operational data.

The previous high was on September 10, 2023—256.

Since the beginning of 2026, Latvia has reported a total of 7,017 attempts to breach its border by migrants from third countries seeking to enter the European Union via Belarus. In total, neighboring EU countries have recorded 8,118 attempts to illegally enter their territory outside of official border crossings.

The migration crisis on the border between Belarus and EU countries has been ongoing since the spring of 2021. Authorities in neighboring European countries consider it a “hybrid attack” organized by the regimes in Minsk and Moscow.
