Ukraine Urgently Requests Patriot Missiles From 40 Countries

The defense of Ukraine's airspace depends directly on the speed of its partners.

Ukraine appealed to 40 partner countries in July, requesting the urgent provision of missiles for the Patriot system.

This was reported by Charter97.org, citing a statement from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.

It is noted that the missiles are being requested in exchange for future deliveries already contracted for Ukraine.

“Intercepting ballistic missiles remains a key challenge due to a shortage of missiles for the Patriot systems,” the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense noted.

The ministry emphasized that, to ensure the country’s anti-ballistic defense, a record-breaking contract for hundreds of PAC-2 missiles for the Patriot system was signed for the first time in April with Germany’s support. They will begin arriving over the next few years.

In addition, a first step was taken toward purchasing about a hundred missiles for the Patriot systems at a cost of $1 billion, financed by a European Union loan. This year, Kyiv also began receiving missiles from the stockpiles of friendly countries for the first time.

“However, this is not enough—Ukraine critically needs additional missiles for its Patriot systems. They are in the stockpiles of our partners. And the defense of Ukraine’s airspace depends precisely on swift decisions, scaling up the PURL mechanism, and purchasing missiles through JUMPSTART,” the Ministry of Defense emphasized.
