Misogynistic Bloggers Traveling To Putin's Economic Forum Were Detained In The U.S.

They were accused of rape and human trafficking.

Two notorious bloggers—Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan—were detained in Miami. British authorities are seeking their extradition on charges of rape, human trafficking, and the distribution of extreme pornography. According to The Guardian, the brothers were arrested on July 18 by the U.S. Marshals Service under a sealed warrant. The arrest took place near the James Knight Sports Complex, where Andrew Tate—a professional kickboxer—was planning to hold a bare-knuckle boxing tournament. They are expected to appear in federal court in Miami early next week. Last month, the brothers attended the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, where they were welcomed with bread and salt as a Cossack ensemble performed the song “Matushka” by Tatyana Kurtukova, recalls The Moscow Times.

According to Bedfordshire Police, the total number of charges against the brothers in the United Kingdom is 59: 42 against Andrew and 17 against Tristan. The Crown Prosecution Service specified that Andrew Tate faces 7 charges of rape, 3 of organizing or facilitating human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation, 3 for causing bodily harm, and 19 for offenses related to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography. Tristan Tate is charged with 2 counts of rape, 1 count of sexual assault, and 3 counts of organizing or facilitating human trafficking. The crimes, it is noted, were committed between July 2010 and August 2017. The U.S. Department of Justice confirmed that the Tate brothers were detained as part of an extradition proceeding at London’s request.

This is not the brothers’ first arrest: in late 2022, they were detained in Romania on similar charges, but in 2024, a court remanded the case back to prosecutors due to procedural violations. Until January 2025, they were barred from leaving the country, but then the Romanian authorities suddenly lifted the restriction. As the Financial Times reported, this was demanded by the administration of Donald Trump, whom Andrew actively supports. After that, the brothers were able to fly to the U.S., though the investigation against them continued.

Andrew Tate is one of the leading ideologues of the English-speaking “manosphere,” known for his aggressive misogynistic statements. He claimed that women “belong” to men and that rape victims bear “some responsibility” for what happened to them. In one of his podcasts, he recounted how he beat a woman and broke her jaw, adding that he “got away with it.” His accounts were suspended on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. Twitter (now X) also banned the blogger, but Elon Musk reinstated his account—it now has nearly 11 million followers.

In addition to the Tate brothers, other controversial foreign figures attended this year’s SPIEF. Among them was Scott Ritter, a former U.S. Marine and ex-UN inspector in Iraq, who was sentenced in 2011 to two and a half years in prison for masturbating during a video chat with a police officer posing as a 15-year-old girl. After his release, he repeatedly made pro-Russian statements, and during the forum, among other things, he claimed that Europe “must either voluntarily or by force end its aggressive policy toward Russia,” and that European policy “hinders the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.” Also among the guests was far-right activist Candice Owens, known for her conspiracy theories claiming that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman and that Americans never landed on the moon. At the forum, she spoke at a session on “traditional family values.”
