The President Of Bangladesh Has Resigned

Mohammad Shahabuddin, 76, is stepping down from his post due to illness.

Bangladesh President Mohammad Shahabuddin has officially resigned. The reason for this decision was his health, according to the local news site banglanews24.

He submitted his resignation to National Assembly Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, who announced the head of state’s resignation at a press conference at the National Parliament.

According to the website, the president stated in his letter that he is unable to fulfill his duties because he suffers from heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and kidney complications, as well as autonomic neuropathy.

The Speaker of Parliament will temporarily assume the duties of head of state, and a new president must be elected within 90 days.

Shahabuddin was born on December 10, 1949, in the city of Pabna. He holds degrees in law and psychology. He worked as a teacher and journalist, then practiced law and served as a judge. Shahabuddin also served as a commissioner of the Bangladesh Anti-Corruption Commission.

He took office as president in April 2023.
