Polish authorities have proposed that the U.S. establish a joint missile production facility with Ukraine.
Polish authorities have proposed to the U.S. that it establish a joint production facility with Ukraine for Patriot missiles, according to PAP reports, citing Deputy Defense Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarniecka.
“We discussed what President [Donald] Trump said during the [NATO] summit in Ankara, specifically his statement about considering the construction of a factory to produce Patriot missiles in Ukraine,” she said.
Sobkowiak-Charnecka noted that the U.S. president wants the new production facility “to be linked to Ukraine.” She added: “The point is to ensure the security of production so that it takes place in a secure location.”
“Today, I presented in detail the steps already taken by the Polish government. Among other things, we have a specific resolution from the Council of Ministers. We have also prepared a bill that could secure funding,” she said. According to her, the report was well received in Washington.
She also noted that Poland continues to discuss with the U.S. a $4 billion loan to purchase American military equipment under the Foreign Military Financing program. “I hope that the signing [of the agreement] will also take place within a few weeks,” she added.
According to her, the visit to Washington should also show the opposition that the entry into force of the SAFE mechanism does not preclude American procurement.
