Sudden Attack: Iran Fired Ballistic Missiles At A U.S. Military Base In Jordan

All the projectiles fired were intercepted.

On Tuesday evening, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a surprise missile strike against U.S. military positions in the Middle East, reportedly targeting a U.S. airbase in Jordan and the CENTCOM headquarters located there.

According to information from the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) published on the social media platform X, all missiles fired were intercepted. The agency described the incident as an attempt at a surprise attack on U.S. forces deployed in the region and reported that U.S. troops remain on high alert.

As Axios reports, citing a source in the U.S. administration, this is Iran’s first missile strike on a U.S. base in the region since last Friday, when President Trump suspended strikes on Iranian territory to give diplomacy another chance. According to the publication, the incident jeopardizes the already fragile truce and could push Washington to resume military action.

Reuters notes that, while suspending a series of strikes on Iranian military targets, Trump simultaneously warned that if negotiations failed to yield results, the attacks would resume.

The IRGC itself, in its statement (No. 52), called the strike a response to “aggressive actions” by the U.S.

In addition, on Tuesday, Saudi Arabia reported that it had intercepted several drones targeting the country’s oil facilities. According to Turki al-Maliki, a spokesperson for the kingdom’s Ministry of Defense, the attacks were carried out from Iraqi territory by groups supported by Iran.
