Zelensky On Graham's Sanctions Against Russia: This Is Definitely A Step Toward Peace

The vote was preceded by a meeting with representatives from both parties in the U.S. Senate.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, while in Washington, reacted to the U.S. Senate’s procedural vote on anti-Russian sanctions, which brought their final approval one step closer.

This was reported by Charter97.org, citing the Ukrainian president’s press service on Telegram.

Zelenskyy reported that a meeting with representatives of both Senate parties took place prior to the vote, footage of which was released by the press service. Many topics were discussed during the meeting, foremost among them Ukraine’s anti-ballistic defense.

The President of Ukraine emphasized that it was symbolic that on July 29—the day of the farewell ceremony for Lindsey Graham—the senators held a procedural vote on the bill imposing sanctions against Russia. After all, as is well known, it was the late Senator Graham who put a great deal of effort into drafting them.

“It was an honor to be present during the vote count—86 senators supported the bill. This is the first step toward implementing Lindsey’s plans and certainly a step toward peace. It is important that this tool works,” Zelensky emphasized.

It is worth noting that for the final approval of Graham’s so-called anti-Russian sanctions, the Senate will need to vote once more on this proposed resolution before August. However, for the final outcome, all senators without exception must support the sanctions.

After that, the House of Representatives will have to approve the sanctions against Russia, and only then will the restrictions take effect.
