Lukashenko's Friend's Son-in-law Was Detained In Armenia

He was arrested in connection with a contract killing.

A court in Yerevan has ordered the two-month detention of former lawmaker and ex-mayor of Artashat Argam Abrahamyan—the son of former Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan. He is accused of instigating a contract killing committed in 2023. According to the Armenian Investigative Committee, Abrahamyan suspected his wife of having an affair with a pastor from the religious organization “Christians of the Evangelical Faith,” whom the agency refers to by the initials S. V. It is also alleged that Abramyan’s wife transferred large sums of money to the pastor, according to The Insider.

According to investigators, out of revenge, Abrahamyan ordered the murder through his bodyguard, G. H., who was financially and personally dependent on him. On April 30, 2023, the bodyguard allegedly shot the pastor near a residential building on Myasnikyan Avenue in Yerevan.

The alleged perpetrator had previously been charged with murder and illegal possession of firearms. In April 2024, his case was sent to court. The man’s attorney told the publication Hraparak that his client does not admit guilt, and that, according to him, there is no direct evidence of Abrahamyan’s involvement in the crime.

Argam Abrahamyan is married to the daughter of businessman and leader of the pro-Russian party “Prosperous Armenia” Gagik Tsarukyan. Tsarukyan himself has been in custody since July on charges of organizing fraud and money laundering on an especially large scale.

Gagik Tsarukyan and Alexander Lukashenko maintain close ties—Tsarukyan refers to him as “his friend.” The Belarusian Embassy in Armenia is located next to Tsarukyan’s mansion in the village of Arindzh on the outskirts of Yerevan.
