Iceland Witnessed A Mesmerizing Total Solar Eclipse

On the evening of August 12, residents of Iceland witnessed a total solar eclipse. The Moon completely covered the Sun’s disk, and for a few moments, the daytime sky was plunged into darkness.

In Reykjavík, the total phase began around 5:48 p.m. local time and lasted about one minute. The entire eclipse cycle in the Icelandic capital lasted about two hours—from 4:47 p.m. to 6:47 p.m.

The path of totality was also visible in Greenland, northern Russia, and Spain. Across most of Europe, the Moon only partially covered the Sun.

The eclipse was also visible in Belarus, but only partially. In Minsk, it began around 8:10 p.m., and the maximum phase occurred at approximately 8:42 p.m., shortly before sunset. The Moon covered a significant portion of the Sun’s disk, but there was no total darkness, as there was in Iceland.
