Johnson Revealed How Britain Could Have Saved The U.S. From A "Trap" In Iran
Boris Johnson

British intelligence could have warned the U.S. about the danger of a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

British intelligence could have warned the U.S. about the risks of a conflict with Iran and the danger of a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, thereby saving Washington from an “obvious trap.” This was stated by former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson at a forum of world leaders, according to The Economic Times.

“But why didn’t our intelligence agencies report to the government that the U.S. was about to fall into a terrible trap? I think the UK could have played a stronger role in trying to stop this mistake,” he said.

According to the former prime minister, London should have sought clarity from Washington in advance regarding the conflict’s objectives and plans in the event of a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz: “What is the purpose of this war? What are you going to do if they close the Strait of Hormuz?”

The former prime minister also criticized the idea of a military regime change in Iran. In his view, preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons and curbing its support for militant groups are legitimate goals, but expecting airstrikes to bring down the Iranian government was “utterly insane.” “Change must come from within Iran itself,” he emphasized.

Johnson called on the U.S., the U.K., and India to coordinate their efforts to resolve the crisis, lower oil prices, and restore shipping, and he also advocated for creating a logistical alternative to the Strait of Hormuz. He described U.S. President Donald Trump as someone who “really likes to consult” with friends and expressed regret that Britain had not taken full advantage of this.
