Ukraine And The United Kingdom Have Signed A Historic Agreement

It concerns defense technologies and AI.

The United Kingdom has signed a partnership agreement with Ukraine. For the first time, British researchers will gain access to Ukraine’s battlefield data platform.

This was reported by Reuters.

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed the agreement in Kyiv.

This makes the UK the first international partner to have access to Ukraine’s “Avengers” artificial intelligence laboratories, according to a government statement.

Under the agreement, the United Kingdom and Ukraine will collaborate on pilot projects involving:

technologies that use fiber-optic cables as AI-based sensors to protect military facilities,

research into low-power AI chips for drones and autonomous systems
The British government stated that the partnership will initially focus on defense and national security projects. It will bring together researchers, engineers, technology companies, and military experts from both countries.

As reported by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense earlier in August, Avengers Labs was created using an annotated dataset of 5 million battlefield images. To a large extent, these were taken from the DELTA military combat system—a domestic battlefield command and control and situational awareness system.

The platform uses data collected from:

cameras,

sensors on the battlefield in Ukraine.

This includes information on tanks, artillery systems, drones, and other military targets.

AI models trained on this data are already being used in an automated target detection system. It analyzes more than 100,000 drone video recordings every month and can identify about 70% of enemy targets in real time.
