The Trump Administration Plans To Revoke Up To 200,000 Visas

It has become clear which foreign nationals in the U.S. will be affected by this.

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump plans to revoke the nonimmigrant visas of foreign nationals who have filed or are currently filing for asylum in the United States, according to the news agency Reuters reports.

A State Department spokesperson said the department is coordinating with the Department of Homeland Security to “identify and revoke nonimmigrant visas held by foreign nationals who entered the United States posing as short-term visitors, but then filed for asylum in order to remain in the country permanently.”

The State Department’s statement does not specify exactly how many visas will be revoked during this process.

According to estimates by the Associated Press, the number of foreign nationals whose business and tourist visas are slated for revocation could reach 200,000. If these plans are carried out, it will be the largest mass revocation of visas in U.S. history.
