A fire broke out at the Amur Gas Chemical Complex in Russia's Amur Region.

The fire broke out at the pyrolysis unit—a key component in the production of ethylene and propylene, according to Dialog.UA.

According to preliminary reports, a shock wave also occurred on the plant’s premises, damaging part of the facilities.

Local residents reported that a large number of fire crews and ambulances had been dispatched to the complex.

The pyrolysis unit is one of the main technological components of the Amur Gas Chemical Complex. It is here that ethylene and propylene are produced from hydrocarbon feedstock.

The facility’s design capacity is approximately 2.7 million metric tons of product per year. Currently, the complex is in the preparatory phase prior to the start of commercial operation.
