Russian Tourists Were Brutally Beaten In Abkhazia

The conflict broke out at a café.

In Russian-occupied Abkhazia, a group of Russian tourists was brutally beaten following a conflict at a local café. According to the victims, racially charged insults were hurled during the attack, and one member of the crowd shouted, “Kill the Russians!” This was reported by “Dialog” citing Russian media reports.

The incident occurred on August 26 during a tour to Lake Ritsa. According to the tourists, the conflict began after the driver allegedly added an additional stop to the itinerary without prior agreement and demanded an extra fee.

Later, at the “Grot” café, one of the Russians criticized the quality of the food and insulted a waitress. Although the bill was ultimately paid in full, a few minutes later one of the drivers struck the tourist, after which other drivers and café staff joined in the beating. According to eyewitnesses, the men were beaten with kicks, benches, and glassware.

As a reminder, Abkhazia was occupied by Russian troops in 2008. Moscow considers the region its legitimate territory, but this position is not supported by Georgia or the international community.
