An Investigation Is Underway In Hungary Into The Financial Transactions Of Orbán's Father's Company

The Budapest Police Headquarters is conducting an investigation into allegations of abuse of office involving a company owned by the father of former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

The Hungarian website 444.hu, citing a statement from the Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK), reports that law enforcement officials want to determine whether Orban’s father’s company, Dolomit Kft, actually sold materials to V-Híd Zrt at an inflated price for the expansion of the M1 highway, which is being built with public funds.
Back in March, the website 444.hu reported that rocks were being delivered by truck from the mines of György Orbán for the expansion of the M1 highway.
The highway is being built by V-Híd, a company belonging to the group of companies owned by one of Hungary’s wealthiest entrepreneurs, Lorincz Mesaros, and the client is MKIF Magyar Koncessziós Infrastruktúra Fejlesztő Zrt., which received a state concession to operate the highway and is also owned by Lorincz Mészáros and László Siyu.
In turn, MKIF receives substantial funds from the government for the maintenance of the highways.
Then, in June, former independent member of the National Assembly Ákos Hadhazi wrote on his Facebook page that he had obtained contracts, according to which Dolomit Kft sold construction stone to V-Híd at a price above market value.
According to Hadhazi, some goods were sold to Mesaros for twice the price listed in their public price list.
Following Hadhazi’s post, the legal director of Transparency International Miklós Ligeti filed a report with the police on suspicion of mismanagement, since, although it is difficult to determine without invoices whether price gouging actually took place, if so, then purchasing stone with public funds at a price exceeding the market rate would have caused financial damage to state property.
