Hyundai Will Release Affordable Sports Cars

The Korean auto giant is trying to emulate the strategy of German automakers.

Hyundai is developing a new lineup of more affordable sports cars that will fill the niche between standard models and full-fledged hypercars. The first car in the new family is set to hit the market in 2030, according to Motor1.

The new series will have its own name, which Hyundai has not yet revealed. The cars will use powertrains and other technical solutions from the N models, but will be more affordable and better suited for public roads than for race tracks.

According to the company, Hyundai currently produces five N models—the i20 N, i30 N, Elantra N, Ioniq 5 N, and Ioniq 6 N. In 2025, their combined sales totaled about 20,000 vehicles. By comparison, N Line models sold about 161,000 units during the same period.

It is precisely the high demand for more mainstream cars that could be the main argument in favor of the new lineup. Hyundai hopes to attract buyers for whom the sporty exterior of the N Line isn’t enough, but the full-fledged N models seem too expensive or extreme.
