A statement like that in Russia is beyond imagination.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan commented on the arrest of Armenia’s pro-Putin former president Robert Kocharyan on corruption charges:

“You were in power for ten years. I, too, have been prime minister for more than eight years. Why am I not a millionaire, while you are all millionaires?”

You know, Nikol, it’s good that you say such things in Armenia and that you are a citizen of this country, but if a Russian citizen dared to say something like that about Russia’s permanent leadership, he’d immediately be labeled a ‘foreign agent,’ charged with ‘discrediting state authority,’ or even face something worse. A statement like that in Russia is a “low blow”—they’d take you “out of the ring” for it.
