Zelenskyy Discussed The Supply Of Interceptor Missiles To Ukraine With The NATO Secretary General

Mark Rutte promised to speed up the process.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte about strengthening Ukraine’s air defense.

The two sides coordinated joint efforts to expedite the delivery of interceptor missiles from partner countries. The president announced this on Telegram on Wednesday, August 5.

According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine is currently working as actively as possible with all international partners that have the necessary capabilities to protect the civilian population from Russian attacks.

“Mark is well aware of the threats, and we have coordinated our efforts with countries that have the necessary missiles and capabilities to provide assistance. It is important to remove bureaucratic barriers and make the necessary political decisions,” the President emphasized.

He also noted that the lives of Ukrainians depend daily on the resolve of European and American partners, and thanked the head of the Alliance for his willingness to seek new opportunities to ensure the necessary supplies.

On the night of August 5, 2026, Russian occupiers attacked Ukraine with four Zircon/Onyx anti-ship missiles and 24 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles. Due to a lack of the necessary number of specialized air defense systems, the air defense forces were unable to shoot down any of these missiles.

As a result of the enemy strikes in Kyiv and the surrounding region, 17 people were killed and another 44 were wounded. The Russian Federation’s main targets were a railway station, infrastructure facilities, and warehouse facilities belonging to civilian enterprises—in particular, on the same day, Russia destroyed one of the largest warehouse and production complexes belonging to the Epicenter chain.
