Iran And Oman Have Reached A Mutual Understanding On The Route Through The Strait Of Hormuz

Tehran has released new details about the negotiations.

Iran and Oman are close to finalizing the proposed framework for commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz; however, this agreement will not lead to the automatic resumption of traffic through this waterway.

This was stated by Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Garibabadi in an interview with the Iranian state news agency IRNA, which cites CNN.

The ongoing negotiations between Iran and Oman are crucial, as they could lead to the full resumption of traffic through the world’s most important energy hub.

Garibabadi noted that the talks have been ongoing for more than three weeks and have led to a general consensus on the proposed routes for incoming and outgoing shipping.

The talks also addressed technical issues, security, and the sovereignty of Iran and Oman, as well as a proposal to establish a joint coordination center for managing maritime traffic and collecting information from vessels.

Under the proposed agreement, temporary routes near the Iranian island of Larak in the Strait of Hormuz and through Omani territorial waters will be closed.

Part of the new corridors for inbound and outbound traffic will run through Iranian waters, marking a departure from the system that has been in place for decades, under which commercial shipping passed through Omani waters, Garibabadi noted.
